Crossbow – Fun Meets Focus
Crossbow offers a different kind of shooting experience. It’s quieter than rifles or shotguns, precise without being intimidating, and a great way to explore the progression from traditional archery to modern shooting.
With close guidance from our instructors, beginners quickly get the hang of aiming and hitting the target. Most first-timers find it surprisingly easy to shoot well, and the sense of achievement comes almost immediately.
While it has its challenges, it’s always approachable. The fun comes from improving your consistency, hitting the target, and watching your bolts start grouping in the gold.
How a Session Works
Sessions start with a short, practical introduction covering safe handling, stance, and aiming. Our instructors stay hands-on to make sure everyone quickly feels confident.
Shooting happens from a standing position at targets set 21 yards away. Everyone gets practice bolts first, then we move on to scoring rounds, with a medal at the end of the event for the top overall shot.
Crossbow is an activity everyone enjoys. It’s perfect for groups, corporate events, or stag and hen days. Friendly competition is encouraged, but the main goal is always to have fun.
Crossbow slots perfectly into any mixed shooting packages and works especially well alongside archery and rifle. These disciplines complement each other, helping participants build skills while appreciating the differences between traditional archery and modern shooting.
Equipment & Range
We use Barnett break-action crossbows. They’re reliable, easy to load, and consistent, which makes focusing on your aim much easier.
We shoot carbon, steel-tipped target bolts that give a solid thud and stick cleanly into the compressed foam butts behind the targets. It’s a satisfying sound — especially when you see it’s landed dead centre.
Shooting takes place on our dedicated outdoor range with standard 60cm targets. There’s space for spectators to watch safely, and both the shooting and viewing areas are covered to reduce the impact of the weather.
Group Sizes & Bookings
Crossbow is most commonly run within our group-based multi-activity events. Typical group sizes range from 6–20 people, though we regularly accommodate larger bespoke events.
It works particularly well as a mid-rotation discipline within mixed shooting packages, providing a change of pace from shotgun or rifle while maintaining competitive structure.
For smaller groups of 2–5 people, Crossbow is available as part of our Small Group Exclusive Sessions. This allows your group to stay with the same instructor throughout the experience, ensuring consistent guidance and personalised coaching. Perfect for a full bowsports session combining Target Archery, Field Archery, and Crossbow!
Larger events of 60+ participants can be structured with rotations, team scoring and awards if required.
